The West Highland White Terrier is affectionately known as a Westie.  They are loved for their intelligence, energy and playfulness.  They are also known for their loyal and loving nature.

In the background of this painting stands the impressive Eileen Donan Castle, Scotland.  The first fortified structure was built on the site in the early 13th century, to protect the lands of Kintail against the Vikings.  The castle’s fascinating history includes involvement in the Jacobite risings of the 17th and 18th centuries, which led to the castle’s destruction.  It was rebuilt in the early part of the 20th century.
